Same room revenue, occupancy and commission rate. This is gross commission reduction, before direct-booking costs. It is not a forecast of what email will achieve.
CHECK THE MATHS
No mystery number.
Annual room revenue = rooms × occupancy ÷ 100 × average nightly rate × 365.
Annual OTA commission = room revenue × OTA revenue share ÷ 100 × commission rate ÷ 100. Divide by 12 for the monthly average.
The example: 20 × 0.68 × £220 × 365 = £1,092,080 room revenue. At 50% OTA share and 18% commission, that is £98,287 a year, or £8,191 a month.
The model assumes year-round availability and consistent average rates. Seasonal closures, different channel rates, cancellations, taxes, payment fees and other charges can change the actual bill. Currency selection changes the unit, not the numbers.
Why 18%? It is an editable example. There is no single rate that applies to every hotel. Check your agreement and statements, or read Booking.com’s commission guidance.
The second booking is worth a closer look.
An OTA can introduce a new guest to your hotel. When that same guest returns through the OTA, you pay commission again. Email can give guests a reason and a route to book with you directly.
This calculator doesn’t tell you which bookings can move. That depends on your guests, marketing permissions, demand and booking experience. It gives you a number to investigate.
